Basics
Start Quilting

This six session course will cover all the basics. We work with Alex Anderson’s book, “Start Quilting” to complete three quilt tops and finish one with quilting and binding. Once you have completed this course, you’re ready to soar!

Perfect Your Binding - Oct. 13   6PM – 8:30 PM
A common remark by quilt judges is the “binding needs improvement”. Diane will help you to perfect your technique with this hands-on class. Class will cover making, attaching and hand finishing straight grain and bias binding. There will also be a machine binding demonstration. Project kit is included in your class fee.

Appliqué Techniques  - Oct. 2, 9, 16              1 PM - 4 PM
Learn six different techniques for appliqué (as well as a couple of additional variations) in hand and machine appliqué. Using a simple posy block and fabrics of your choice, you will surely discover your favorite method. Once finished, the blocks go together into a small quilt. Be sure to pick up the class materials list early so that you will have time to assemble your “appliqué class kit”.

Introduction to
Machine Quilting

  Yearning to explore machine quilting but not sure if it’s for you? Maybe you just need a quick refresher class? …and of course that other problem – not enough time for a longer class, then this is the one for you! An abbreviated version of “Mastering Machine Quilting” which is also for beginners, students learn the basics of layering and basting, free-motion quilting, free-motion stitching, stencils, use of the walking foot and fill-in designs for backgrounds. Although this is a shorter class than the “Master”, it is still a thorough course covering all the basics of quilt preparation, tools, notions, methods, techniques and any other information you need. You can be successful once you decide to quilt up that top you so lovingly pieced.

Mastering Machine
Quilting

For beginners & those who want to go further, for those who are serious about wanting to become skilled at machine quilting on a home sewing machine. This is not an “Introduction to Machine Quilting” or “Beginning Machine Quilting” class but rather an intensive, thorough and complete course which covers everything you need, as well as the hands-on time to practice with an instructor’s help, to become an accomplished quilter. During the 8-week course you will spend several hours at your machine as well as receive an in-depth course covering the tools, notions, tips information and “real” techniques that work.

Crazy Quilt with Silk
Ribbon Embroidery

Crazy quilting is a Victorian-age needlework that is made by placing together irregular shaped patches on a foundation. A wide variety of embroidery stitches are added to the patches to bring it to life. You will receive basic embroidery and silk ribbon embroidery instructions.   Sew a precise 1/4” binding ALL by machine. Using the technique by Suzanne Michelle Hyland, Ken will show you how to cut your binding time by at least half! You’ll want to purchase the video to have for reference, but you’ll walk away from this demonstration with a great time-saving technique that is wonderful for those quilts that need the binding to be STRONG.

  Learn how to make your own stencils so that you are not limited to the stencil company selections when choosing designs.   For students with no garment sewing experience as well as those who want a refresher course in the basics. An on-point layout, gentle curves, and high contrast create a secondary design of circles, giving the name “Hidden Circles” to this classic quilt design. Quilt History Study Group

You’ll share what you know and learn even more about quilts from the past. In 2009 we will be learning about the life and events from the early 20th century,1900 to 1940. We will study events, textiles, patterns and the names that influenced the quilt world as well as the lives of the women of that period. Each session will include a block pattern and kit.
